Let’s not pretend anymore…
…that I don’t have crazy iPad-fever. I secretly want one. And I also outwardly want one.

So I guess that’s the only way to describe it. I’m pretty sure I can get one through work, but I did say that I wanted to check it out before pushing for one. I haven’t done a whole bunch of research, I must admit, but I can only imagine this would fit perfectly into what I’d want out of a tablet.
I don’t write anything anymore, outside of checks. So besides having terrible penmanship, this would help me when working with clients as they often print waaayyyy too much paper than I ever need. They often print every word document even remotely related to the project, even if it has nothing to do with me, they make me a copy. I don’t want this, and I don’t need this. Save the trees and save the toxic ink I says. Even now, when I go to client meetings I bring my laptop and take almost all my notes on here, so the iPad would also make this much less cumbersome for me.
When I go to client meetings, or have phone meetings, it’s much easier to be in a conference room to avoid causing and hearing distractions. But there is almost never a computer handy in these places to show comps and demos on. The iPad would also be perfect for this. I rarely use Flash in anything I do, so no issues there either. Plus, a Mac screen renders content in a much more attractive way than Windows does, so I also look at that as a selling point. It would also make sharing a comp amongst many folk easier than trying to get everyone into place at a certain angle that they can all see my laptop screen.
Plus, I’m obviously a huge Apple fan-boy, so I’m naturally going to want anything and everything Apple.
I’m very curious to see how / if it can run Photoshop, or a lighter version of Photoshop so that I might be able to make in-meeting edits to comps, but this would probably not be a breaking point. Although, I’m not sure I’d use it for any actual tablet drawing purposes, but that may change.
As I see it, the iPad is going to be great for folks who want a simple way to digest info from the interwebs, but who also do not need to create much. I also think / hope that it will be a great sales / markup tool for myself, but I guess I’ll have to wait another 10+ hours like everyone else to really find out.
Plus the wave of female-product-based jokes seems to have died down, so I feel less awkward ogling this now.
